Some people think that violent films and video games have negative effects on people and should be banned. Others think that they are just relaxation sources. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.
Introduction
It is true that saturation of electronic media has left exposure to violence inevitable, especially for those who are enthusiastic about movies and virtual games. While this access to unsettling content could undermine personal development for certain groups, I doubt a complete sanction would be a one-size-fits-all approach, as it is also an effective escape from one’s mundane life.
? saturation n. 飽和,飽和狀態(tài);
? enthusiastic about 熱衷于
? undermine v.
Body paragraph 1
There are three key factors why this nefarious content should be halted. Firstly, repetitive studies unfold a link between desensitization to aggressive behaviors and regular exposure to gory scenes; this habituation may stimulate one to deal with real-life interpersonal conflicts by pushing, shoving or even serious assaults. Secondly, vivid description of hideous scenes may spur anxiety and frustration, showing an enhanced processing of negative stimuli in daily life. Finally, the so-called glorified brutality may end up weakening one’s moral compass. For example, movies on vigilante justice provide ready-made excuses for inflicting pains and destructions to others.
? nefarious content adj.
? halt v. (使)停止行進(jìn);阻止,中斷;
? desensitization n.
? gory scenes adj.
? habituation n. 習(xí)慣,熟習(xí);
? inflicting v.
Body paragraph 2
Nevertheless, imposing a complete restriction on fictional violence should be seen as a hypocrisy, since real-life violence is rampant in news reports and contact sports. Even if this were not true, underground markets would fill the gap, rendering the policy fruitless. Instead, acknowledging the lighthearted appeals of entertainments could be a wiser approach. Beset by routines in lives, game players could get rid of their pent-up aggression or frustration, while those drawn to torture movies could regulate their emotions in a safe zone. The intense psychological experience also triggers adrenalines and dopamine similar to extreme sports, but without physical danger.
? fictional violence adj.
? hypocrisy n.
? rampant adj.
? fruitless adj.
? lighthearted appeals adj.
? beset v.
? pent-up adj.
? Be drawn to 被……
Conclusion
In conclusion, although excessive exposure to media violence poses undeniable risks to psychological and moral development, outright prohibition remains an impractical solution. A balanced approach—combining responsible consumption, enhanced media literacy, and targeted age restrictions—would better address societal concerns.
? poses undeniable risks to 構(gòu)成不可否認(rèn)的危害
? outright adj.
